The Christ Child Society of Washington, D.C., a nonprofit organization focused on serving children and families in need in the District, will celebrate the 85th anniversary of its Opportunity Shop on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 5-9 p.m. at the shop in Georgetown.
The Opportunity Shop’s Anniversary celebration coincides with fellow Georgetown establishment Martin’s Tavern’s anniversary event, which is also celebrating 85 years that same evening.
The Opportunity Shop, a high-end consignment shop has been a fixture in Georgetown after first opening in 1933. The Shop is staffed by volunteers and all proceeds are used to support the D.C. Chapter of the society and its programs aimed to help families. This includes events like their annual free Book and Baby Fair and initiatives like “Girls on the Rise,” which supports young women in Ward 8.
“The Christ Child Society of Washington, D.C.’s Opportunity Shop is proud to celebrate its 85th anniversary in Georgetown. The anniversary event’s proceeds, like all our sale proceeds, will go directly to helping families in need in the District, and is a great way to shop local to support local families,” said Chris Derderian, Opportunity Shop store director.
To celebrate the milestone event, the Opportunity Shop at 1427 Wisconsin Ave. NW, will have special sales on merchandise and refreshments for shoppers. Just a couple blocks down, Martin’s Tavern, located at 1264 Wisconsin Ave. NW, will hold an evening anniversary event, with specials across their menu. Georgetown patrons and visitors are encouraged to attend events and both celebrating establishments
