Catholic Charities will present a parish immigration information forum on Saturday Feb. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Christ the King Church, 2301 Colston Drive, Silver Spring, Maryland. This educational workshop will provide testimonies of immigrants’ journeys and suggestions on how parishes can assist. This forum is geared toward people who would like to learn how they can support and advocate for immigrants in our area. No legal services will be provided. To RSVP, email [email protected] .

The Lucinda L. Jasper Scholarship Committee and Board of Directors announce the scholarship competition for the school year 2020. The late Richard W. Jasper Jr. established the Lucinda L. Jasper Scholarship Fund in memory of his mother, Mrs. Lucinda L. Jasper, who was a teacher for over 30 years in the Archdiocese of Washington. Since 1993, two scholarships have been awarded annually to children who attend Catholic grade schools in the Archdiocese of Washington who plan to attend a Catholic high school in the archdiocese upon graduation. The amounts of the awards are $1,750 for first place and $1,250 for second place.

Requirements for application are: Children must attend a Catholic grade school in the Archdiocese of Washington and have been accepted in a Catholic high school in the archdiocese for the fall.

Students will be judged on three criteria: an essay of 1,500 to 2,500 words on an African-American who has influenced the applicant to continue on to higher education; achievement demonstrated by academic records (from the school); and recommendation by a teacher.

The application packet (application form, essay, school report and recommendations) for the scholarship competition can be found online, http://www.lljsf.org/

Emails were sent in January to every Catholic grade school principal in the Archdiocese of Washington.

Submissions will be accepted only online and must be in by 11:59 p.m. March 31.
