New Cardinal Christophe Pierre to celebrate All Saints Mass at National Shrine

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception joins with the rest of the Catholic Church throughout the world in celebrating the Solemnity of All Saints (Wednesday, Nov. 1) and the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed (Thursday, Nov. 2, All Souls Day).

Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the apostolic nuncio to the United States and personal representative of Pope Francis, will celebrate the Solemn Mass of All Saints at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 1. The Solemn Mass will be the first Mass he will celebrate at the Basilica since his return from the public consistory in Rome on Sept. 30, at which he was created Cardinal Deacon of San Benedetto fuori Porta S. Paolo by Pope Francis. Cardinal Pierre, as apostolic nuncio, regularly celebrates Masses at “America’s Catholic Church.”

Msgr. Walter Rossi, rector of the National Shrine, said, “It is an honor for us to have Cardinal Pierre join us, not only for such an important holy day, but also that we may celebrate and give thanks for His Eminence’s life of service to the universal Church. His ministry has been a true blessing for our country and for this National Shrine in particular.”

Cardinal Pierre will greet those present following Mass.

The Mass will be available online at www.nationalshrine.org/mass and will be broadcast Live on the Eternal Word Television Network.
