National Shrine Christmas season schedule of Masses and events

The following is a listing of Christmas events scheduled at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The National Shrine is located at 4th Street and Michigan Avenue, N.W. It is convenient to the Metro’s Red Line Brookland station and offers plenty of free parking.

Saturday, Dec. 17: 

“God with Us: A Concert of Choral Music for the Christmas Season” performed by the Choir of the Basilica at 7 p.m. It will be livestramed at www.nationalshrine.org/Mass.

Sunday, Dec. 18: 

Blessing of the Bambinelli (Baby Jesus figurines) and lighting of the Christmas tree following the 4:30 p.m. Mass.

Wednesday, Dec. 21 to Saturday, Dec. 24: 

Confessions heard from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve:

Choral Meditations on the Nativity presented by the Basilica Choir and Brass Ensemble at 10 p.m. EWTN will broadcast the mediations and they will also be livestreamed at www.nationalshrine.org/Mass.

Solemn Mass on the Vigil of the Nativity of the Lord will be celebrated at 10:30 p.m. by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States. EWTN will broadcast the Mass and it will also be livestreamed at www.nationalshrine.org/Mass.

Sunday, Dec. 25, Christmas Day:

Solemn Mass on Christmas Day will be celebrated at noon by Washington Cardinal Wilton Gregory. EWTN will broadcast the Mass and it will also be livestreamed at www.nationalshrine.org/Mass.

Misa de la Natividad del Señor Spanish-language Christmas Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. by Washington Auxiliary Bishop Mario Dorsonville. EWTN will broadcast the Mass and it will also be livestreamed at www.nationalshrine.org/Mass.

Christmas Day Masses will also be celebrated at 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 30, Holy Family:

Masses for the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph will be offered at 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 12:10 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 1, Mary, Mother of God:

Masses for the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God will be offered 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., noon, 2:30 p.m. (in Spanish) and 4:30 p.m. A vigil Mass will also be offered Dec. 31 at 4:30 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 8, Epiphany:

Solemn Mass for the Epiphany of Our Lord will be celebrated at noon by Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio of the Archdiocese for the Military Services. EWTN will broadcast the Mass and it will also be livestreamed at www.nationalshrine.org/Mass.

Masses will also be celebrated at offered 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., noon, 2:30 p.m. (in Spanish) and 4:30 p.m. A vigil Mass will also be offered Jan. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
