Photo Gallery: Students enjoy 'Truck-A-Palooza' at St. Andrew Apostle School
St. Andrew Apostle School in Silver Spring, Maryland, held its inaugural “Truck-A-Palooza” event on Nov. 22, 2024. The event extended learning outside the classroom and enabled 450 students, from preschool to 8th grade to learn more about vehicles they see in their community and the people that use them for their professions. Students got to climb in trucks, ask questions of drivers and staff, see demos, try on gear, and hear about how vehicles are used to serve their communities. The day saw this winter season’s first area snowfall, making the event all the more festive and fun. Participating vehicles included a Glenmont Fire Co.18 tower truck and fire engine; a Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad UTV; Montgomery County Police Department Emergency Services Vehicle, cruisers, motorcycles, and drones; an MCDOT (Montgomery County Department of Transportation) front loader, skid steer, snow plow and dump truck; a Ride-On Bus; a Pepco bucket truck; a U.S. Postal Service delivery vehicle; a National Capital Park Police horse and cruiser; a Guzman heavy towing truck; an Amazon delivery vehicle; a Quiet Sweep street sweeper; a Montgomery County Public Schools bus; and WUSA9’s hybrid storm tracking vehicle “ECO9.” (Catholic Standard photos by Mihoko Owada)
