Washington Cardinal Wilton Gregory, at center, celebrates a Mass of Thanksgiving on Aug. 22, 2024 at the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception that commemorated the centennial of the first priestly ordinations at the National Shrine in 1924. Since then, nearly 7,000 ordinations have taken place at the shrine.
