As he celebrated a June 19 Mass at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Waldorf and led a Corpus Christi procession there after the Mass, Washington Auxiliary Bishop Mario Dorsonville emphasized that the Eucharist is central to the lives of Christians.
Father Alain Colliou, the pastor of Our Lady Help of Christians, and the parochial vicar there, Father Jan Pietryga, concelebrated the Mass marking the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.
In his homily, Bishop Dorsonville said the Eucharist has played a central role in his vocational journey. He said that the Corpus Christi procession after the Mass would offer a “visible sign of the mission of every Christian,” that is, “the proclamation of the Kingdom of God with one’s one life after being nourished by the Eucharist.”
Following the Mass, Bishop Dorsonville was accompanied by the priests, deacons, a dozen altar boys, and more than 100 parishioners who processed outside the church with the Blessed Sacrament and then around the Smallwood Village Center in Waldorf.
With hymns and songs, the parish community shared the joy of the Paschal Mystery made present in the sacrament of the Eucharist.
The procession concluded with the benediction at the entrance of the church.
