February Junior Saints: Barack Obama

(Junior Saints Drawing/Nicholas Mue, seventh grade, St. Columba School, Oxon Hill, Maryland)

For the February issue of Junior Saints, which featured submissions for Black History Month, many students chose to draw pictures of the first African American president of the United States, Barack Obama.

Barack Obama by Gemma Tamburri, eighth grade, Our Lady Star of the Sea School, Solomons, Maryland
Former first lady Michelle Obama by Peyton McIntyre, eighth grade, St. John's School, Hollywood, Maryland
"I chose him because I want to become the very first Mexican-American woman [president] in the United States...if he can then I can." -Leslie Moranchel, fifth grade, the Academy of St. Matthias the Apostle, Lanham, Maryland
"Barack Hussein Obama II is an American attorney and politician who served as the 44th president of the U.S. He was the first African American to be elected for the presidency, from 2009 to 2017. I chose him because he was brave and didn't care about what people said about him. I hope to be like him one day." -Glory Gezaei, fifth grade, Blessed Sacrament School, Washington, D.C.
