March Junior Saints: St. Columba School

“I want to go to church more because I want to be closer to God.” - Jaya Kelly, sixth grade, St. Columba School, Oxon Hill

This Lent, students at St. Columba School in Oxon Hill, Maryland, are sacrificing things they love to grow closer to God and spending more time with their families. Below are a few of the Junior Saints submissions we received from them this month.

“For Lent, I would be praying, fasting, refusing to eat meat, and donating clothes to the homeless. I would also refuse the things I want to be closer to God." - Sunhee Han, sixth grade, St. Columba School, Oxon Hill
“For Lent, I will pray for the living and the dead. I will pray for every person in the world. We should even pray for those who are mean and hurtful.” - Leila Gonzales, sixth grade, St. Columba School, Oxon Hill
“During Lent I will pray and thank God for everything that He has given me. I will also give, even if I don't need to. For example, if one of my friends is especially hungry, I will let them eat my snack. I will sacrifice my snacks that I especially like, including chips and cookies. Lastly, I will respect my elders, especially those who deserve it most, like my parents.” - Julia Palor, sixth grade, St. Columba School, Oxon Hill
“This Lent I will be spending my time with my family. I want to be closer and happier with my family. They are the best people in my life, and I want to be with them while I can." - Mariah Pleta, sixth grade, St. Columba School, Oxon Hill
“For Lent I will stop procrastinating. I always do less important things instead of things I need to do." - Camille Urcia, sixth grade, St. Columba School, Oxon Hill
“For Lent, I will do all these things so I can be closer to God.” - Kaylana Padre, sixth grade, St. Columba School, Oxon Hill
“I am giving up my Nintendo Switch because I use it a lot so now I can use the time with my family.” - Morgan Anthony, sixth grade, St. Columba School, Oxon Hill
