The episcopal ordinations of The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington’s two new auxiliary bishops – Bishop-elect Juan R. Esposito-Garcia and Bishop-elect Evelio Menjivar-Ayala – will be Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, D.C.

Pope Francis on Dec.19 appointed the two priests of this archdiocese as auxiliary bishops here.

Attendance at the Mass of Episcopal Ordination is by invitation only; however, the Mass will be livestreamed at https://youtu.be/aCFrwCCYgls.

The appointments of Bishop-elect Esposito and Bishop-elect Menjivar were announced in Washington by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the Vatican’s apostolic nuncio to the United States. At that time, Washington Cardinal Wilton Gregory said “our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has blessed the Archdiocese of Washington” with the new bishops who will “dedicate themselves tirelessly to the promotion of the Gospel and the mission of Christ.”

Bishop-elect Esposito, who turned 49 on Jan. 10, in recent years served as an official in the Dicastery for Bishops at the Vatican. Bishop-elect Menjivar, 52, is currently pastor of St. Mary Parish in Landover Hills, Maryland.
